Dr Po-Lin Chan is the Regional Technical Lead for viral hepatitis at the World Health Organization Regional Officer for the Western Pacific. She has worked in Africa, South Asia and East Asia in clinical services and conflict zones to advising government on public health initiatives. Passionately committed to health for all, she led WHO’s technical assistance to India for their establishment, scale-up and decentralisation of the HIV/STI national response. She served as Senior Advisor for Hepatitis, HIV and STI in WHO China to support the country in combating these public health burden.

Polin was instrumental in catalyzing the dialogue on viral hepatitis elimination in China, as well as working closely with Chinese experts and national programmes in hepatitis B elimination of mother to child transmission and triple elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B. Sharing the Chinese experience to the world, this work has resulted in a global paradigm shift from dual to triple elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV and syphilis to include hepatitis B. Polin now works in the Western Pacific Region to support the 37 countries in getting to viral hepatitis elimination as a public health threat by 2030.
